Christmas 2011

Saturday 26 November 2011 sees the Maidenhead Christmas town centre lights being switched on in the early evening.

Spectacular fireworks will light up the dark sky above the Town Hall at 6pm. Be there an hour earlier for the countdown to the switch-on. Local pop band Riser will be on-hand to provide musical entertainment.

Children's rides will be available along St Ives Road (closed to traffic) and the High Street.

During the day visit Nicholsons Shopping Centre for Christmas fun including card making workshops and visit to Santa!

There is also a Craft Co-op Christmas Popup shop from 10am until 5pm in the old Waterstones Shop in Nicholsons Shopping Centre. There will be lots of locally made crafts for sale - great unusual gifts for Christmas along with a popup cafe serving cakes and hot drinks.

Free parking in all town centre car parks from 4pm (except Town Hall car park (from 5pm) and Magnet Leisure Centre (not free)).

It includes some words from Father Christmas, the count down and the lights coming on. Fireworks are then let off from the Town Hall roof. It finishes with some stills of the lights on the other shopping streets in Maidenhead.

The shops
Christmas lights in Maidenhead town centre, 2008Shoppers in Maidenhead have more than 300 shops to choose from - including well- known High Street stores such as Boots, Argos, Superdrug, Virgin, Game, Thomas Cook, Thomson, Next, Marks and Spencer and WHSmith. There are also three town-centre supermarkets - Tesco Metro, Sainsburys and Waitrose.

But there's also smaller and more exclusive shops in an area where old meets new - the pedestrianised High Street was the old main road from London to Bath; just off it is Nicholsons Shopping Centre, a covered shopping centre with its own car park.

Check out the town centre map, showing main shopping streets and car parks giving access to 3000 spaces.
